From Anxious To Calm: The Role Of Emotional Maturity On Anxiety During Labor

Abstract


Pregnancy is a condition often accompanied by anxiety, especially approaching the delivery process, and can impact the physical and mental condition of the mother and fetus. The purpose of this study was to analyze the role of emotional maturity in anxiety about childbirth in pregnant women in Bangkalan Regency. The hypothesis of this study is that there is an influence of emotional maturity on anxiety about childbirth. This study used a quantitative approach through simple linear regression analysis. The research subjects comprised 100 pregnant women in Bangkalan aged 23–35 years with a gestational age of more than 30 weeks, selected through purposive sampling. The research instruments used were the Perinatal Anxiety Screening Scale (PASS), consisting of 31 items, and an emotional maturity scale, consisting of 30 items. The results of the research analysis that has been conducted indicate that there is an influence of emotional maturity on anxiety facing childbirth in pregnant women (F = 17.575, p < 0.01; β = −0.402, t = −4.192, p < 0.01). These findings indicate that emotional maturity plays a role in suppressing feelings of anxiety in facing childbirth in pregnant women in Bangkalan; the higher the emotional maturity of pregnant women, the lower their anxiety.
