Cross-Generational Perception of Tourism Content on Social Media
Abstract
The number of internet users in Indonesia continues to increase, as indicated by survey results conducted by APJII. Regarding internet usage, there are various reasons why people connect to the internet. Among these reasons, the majority of people use the internet for networking and communication through social media. Today, social media is not only used for networking but has also become a platform for entertainment and for seeking information and references.
Several studies have shown that generational differences influence variations in social media usage, including differences in the frequency of use and interaction patterns among generations. Many previous studies have focused only on one or two generations (for example, Generation Y and Generation Z) and have not directly compared Generation X, Generation Y, and Generation Z in the context of perceptions of tourism. Therefore, this study aims to examine the perceptions of these three generations (Generation X, Generation Y, and Generation Z) regarding tourism information content on social media.
This study was conducted by distributing questionnaires to respondents from three different generations. The final sample consisted of 51 respondents from Generation X, 50 respondents from Generation Y, and 40 respondents from Generation Z. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive analysis by describing the respondents’ answers. The results of this study indicate several differences in opinions among the three generations; however, there are also some similarities in responses to several of the statements presented. Keywords
